Post-holiday wrap up, part 1

The wrapping paper has been discarded (well in our case, it's filling our 2 trash cans and 1 recycle can), the children are nestled in bed with their new Dream Lites, and nightmares of everything I've eaten so far this holiday are dancing in my head. The most exciting thing to happen this Christmas is that we had snow - lots of it - in Dallas! My oldest daughter had been asking me for weeks about having snow on Christmas and I kept telling her, "We hardly ever get snow here. Don't count on it, ok?" She told me she was going to pray and ask God for snow. Well, God definitely answered her prayer because it started around 1:30 PM on Christmas day and didn't let up until dinner time. The picture above shows the result. Our winter wonderland stayed around for several days, so R & R were able to play it in several times and build a snow man with Dad. (Please forgive the snowman iPhone photo; I borrowed it from hubs.

I'm so proud that R & R actually had waterproof gloves with which to build a snowman and play in the snow. After years of my poor eldest R having to play in our twice yearly snow with woolen mittens, I realized - heck - these things aren't doing anything to keep my kid's hands warm as they are WET (duh). Last year I got smart and ordered very official-looking waterproof gloves (pink of course) for the kids before winter. And last year we had not a fleck of snow or ice. Of course we didn't.

So, back to the holidays. A couple days after Christmas, we loaded up the family and the dog and headed to Shreveport, Louisiana for the Independence Bowl! Our alma mater, ULM, got their first ever bowl invite this year and we could not be happier alumni! Shreveport also just happens to be near my in-law's home, so we got some free childcare to boot. (Can't beat that!) Next time I'll be sharing a little recap of the game, and our night out in the big city of Shreveport.

{Currently listening to my father-in-law's snoring}

Come back, ya hear?
