It's a Friday afternoon, and I have one child napping and the other going home with a friend after school. As I sat in bed with my laptop, iPhone, and iPad - I thought, what should I do with myself and all this free time?! I decided to definitely disregard the large pile of clean laundry on the couch that needs to be folded. So, I turned on my "Island Time" playlist and set about researching island stuff. What? That's not what you do in your free time? Well if you can't be in the islands or your favorite place, what's the next best thing? Planning your next trip of course!
Speaking of travel planning, I have a visitor coming all the way from Belgium to see me in Dallas for a week. I'm in charge of all the activities, and I want to make sure her first trip to Texas is a memorable one. And it can't be memorable if we're sitting at home! Here are just a few of the things I'm considering doing with my Belgian friend:
Dallas Arboretum
Lunch on various restaurant patios, weather permitting (we have great restaurants in Dallas!)
Texas Rangers game (the experience of American baseball)
Dallas Arts District
Reunion Tower
Preschool Field Day (still gotta do Mom duty)
Southfork
Downtown McKinney
Trip to Austin/Texas Hill Country for the weekend, including but not limited to:
Resort on the lake
Spa treatments
Lounging by the pool
Fredericksburg
Fine dining (in Austin)
Austin Pecan Street Festival
In Austin, we're staying at Lakeway Resort and Spa. I've actually stayed there before, about five years ago with my family and another family who was traveling with us. Despite the fun slide at one of the pools, I remember thinking at the time that it was really more of an adult resort. The weekend pool scene was a major party. You can check out my 2008 Tripadvisor.com review of the resort here. Although this upcoming trip will be a girls' weekend, we're not really looking to party. I am thinking spa treatments and relaxing by the pool. I hope I've chosen wisely. Stay tuned for my 2013 Tripadvisor review of the resort, and a run down of what R & R (or lack there of) my Belgian friend and I get up to!
