Shaking things up in 2013

34
I've contemplated writing a New Year's Resolutions post for a couple of weeks. If I write them down, people read them (all 3 of you), and then I don't follow through, that's just embarrassing. But here's the thing -  I do feel like I could use some things to shake up my 2013. Shake it up in a good way. Because aren't resolutions just about bettering ourselves? So, here goes. Don't hold me to these, OK?

  1. To feel good. I vow to start working out again and eat healthy. Isn't this on every one's list? (Unless you're LeAnne Rimes and look like you never eat). I was doing Zumba pretty regularly last year until we bought a new house, went on a big family vacation, and my oldest R started Kindergarten. I totally fell off the bandwagon sometime in June and never got back on. My body and my clothes are telling me. They are yelling at me. I hear you! So, I'm happy to report that as of January 1, I've been watching what I eat and started slowly back on the workout track. Fortunately my hubby has also resolved to eat better and exercise, so he has no complaints about my adventures in making spaghetti squash and cauliflower mock mashed potatoes. After working up to it by walking, I made it to Zumba twice last week. My little R went with me, as the studio I attend doesn't have childcare.  She was so sweet - just sitting there watching mommy while sitting at the kid's table like a good girl. Of course she had crayons and snacks. But back to me - I was a little sore the day after each session, so I call that a success!
  2. To look good. I want to be THAT hot mom. I want to to be more adventurous with my make-up and stay better on top of fashion trends (without breaking the bank). It's not only a way to better myself, but also to look better for my husband and family. Yet this may prove to be the most difficult one. Fashion isn't cheap, and neither are cosmetics (the cool stuff anyway).  And I like to think I have great fashion sense, but sometimes, while being a mom (and a working one at that), it's hard to have your kids looking good and  look good yourself. Getting your kids fed, dressed and out the door is half the battle after all. So while I may drop my eldest at school in my PJ's and slippers, I vow to pick her up in a nice-looking outfit with my face done, versus sweats and no make-up. Ok, well, just not my sweats every time. And I'm going to accessorize and everything! For Christmas, I got a few gift cards and I've already bought this awesome smaller wallet from Nordstrom to pair with the bag I got for Christmas (a teal-colored over-the-shoulder Kate Spade). Don't they look fabulous together?  The wallet is Nordstrom's own brand and you can pick this up for just $38. I also picked up this set of 3 bangles on mega sale at Francesca's for $3! Isn't that a steal? (Pardon my iPhone photos; I just have very little time to download!)
So, here's what is on my wish list for Spring/Summer: cute new flats in a fun color to wear with skinny jeans (SO wish those would go out of style already), some fun new eyeshadows in popular Spring colors, more bangles - lots and lots of bangles, and a new tankini that makes me look OK (refer to resolution number 1). What's on your list of must-haves for Spring?
  3.  Be HAPPY. I have so many things in my life to be thankful for and to be happy about. Yet last year, many times I found myself feeling blue. How does one get themselves out of a funk? What makes you happy? I've never thought to write them down, but there are a few things that never cease to lift my mood. So this year I vow to blast Kenny Chesney more, to take my land-locked self to the beach as much as possible, to see my true friends more, and to be thankful for everything that is good in my life. I owe it not just to myself, but to my family. Because after all, it's like they say: if momma isn't happy, then no one's happy.
